Hag stones, otherwise known as Adder Stones, Holy Stones, or Witch’s stones, are a charm of good luck and protection. In nature, they are stones with a hole through the stone from water erosion. Steeped in ancient folklore and magick, some said if you looked through the hole, you could see into the world of spirits or catch a glimpse of things hidden from the naked eye — like fairies or ghosts. Sailors believed they’d protect their ships from storms. Oddly enough, while many thought hag stones could ward off witchcraft, witches use them too — especially for scrying or second sight. These days, they’re still popular with those who practice folk magic or just enjoy the quiet mystery of old traditions.
